My critique group consisted of Doug, Scot, and myself. I liked this group because Doug gave me very good critique on my art and essays. I also feel that I was able to contribute to my group well. I also enjoyed that my group was small because we got through critiques easily and quickly and we were able to be honest with each other because we are all friends.
In this project, I made a stencil on Photoshop about my political topic, spray painted it onto a board, created another small piece of canvas art, annotated many articles, and wrote an essay on my political stance on abortion. I learned all about abortion, as well as how to form an educated opinion on a political topic. I also learned the importance of knowing both sides of an argument in order to be able to qualify my stance.
In this project, I really enjoyed that we could pick any topic and we had a lot of creative control within it. I liked that we got to research multiple topics until we found one that we were truly passionate about. I also appreciated the "alternate art piece" assignment because I was able to express my feelings in another art form that I was comfortable with and proud of.
I think that my biggest struggle in this project was at the very beginning as we created our stencils. I couldn't figure out how to express my thoughts in a simple graffiti stencil. I wanted more depth and artistry in my piece, and I could not comprehend a way to put it in a simple stencil. I got a lot of critique from my friends and family, and figured out that I could create a stencil that showed the basics of my opinion, and I added a more artistic side by using multiple layers/colors.
I think that I worked hard in humanities from the beginning because I really liked our assignments and I wanted to get them done with plenty of time to get critique, revise, and embellish. I always had my work done on time and did my best not to procrastinate. I could improve a bit on my focus during class. I usually sat with my friends, which could get distracting sometimes, but I was always able to finish my work. In the future, I will continue to work hard and finish on time, as well as maintaining my focus.
If I could change this project, I think we should have incorporated it more into physics. By the end of the project, the butterflies didn't seem to fit in anymore. Since we read ITTOTB at the very beginning, we were forgetting about it by the end of the project. I think our physics half should have been either a different exhibition, or more related to street art and not to the book.
