Belmont Park Mini-Project
Picture (above). I drew the roller coaster at Belmont Park.
Tanner Ragan and Kyle Hawthorne were my group members. This group was a little bit hard for me to work in because I ended up doing a lot of the talking, and I felt like my group wasn't very involved. I think that generally, I am a loud person, I talk a lot in groups, and I get my ideas out there. My members didn't talk as much, and I was worried that their opinions weren't being shared, but they didn't seem to want to speak. I like working in groups where there is a lot more input and conversation from everybody.
In this project, my group made a sketch of the roller coaster (mine is above), a story in which the twists of the plot relied on the twists of the coaster, and an art piece that combined the two. Our art piece was a newspaper. Through this project, I found that roller coasters have a lot more elements and curves than it first appears, and they can be difficult to draw.
I think that our final product turned out very well, and I was proud of the work that we put into it. I think that our idea was original, and no one else did anything similar, which made it stand out.
One of the biggest struggles I had was trying to figure out how to put a sketch of a roller coaster and a story together to make one art piece. I talked to my teachers about different ideas, but my mom actually gave me the idea of making it a newspaper. I looked online at many different newspaper templates to see how to configure it, and created a newspaper with an article on the history of Belmont Park (complete with a sketch of the roller coaster), and a story underneath it as a separate article.
In this project, I feel like I did well by staying on task and putting a lot of effort and time into my sketch and final art piece. In the future, I would make my group members speak up more so that I'm not the only one putting ideas and opinions out there, but also having it be a group idea.
I think that this project was well put together, the timeline was fair, and everyone's final products looked very good. The only thing I would want to change about it would be that we would get to pick our partners. I know who I do/don't work well with, and I work best when I am in a good group that works hard and that I can rely on.
